About Us

The Laguna Beach California Branch of AAUW was founded in 1967 and after more than 40 years is still a dynamic growing organization with many exciting programs, interest groups and opportunities to get involved in the community. Our diverse membership covers a wide range of ages and backgrounds. About half of our 170 members live in Laguna; the others are from surrounding communities. Many members are "dual members" with other branches.

Mission Statement

The AAUW Laguna Beach Branch is a unique multidimensional group of women in the arts, education, business, science, law and community affairs. Together we are working to empower women and girls through education to reach their full potential.

Local and National Support

Our branch contributes financially to both local community programs and national AAUW programs. We offer annual local scholarships to graduating high school seniors and to women returning to college. We also sponsor middle school girls who participate in Tech Trek, a science and math summer camp program. We award community grants to other local non-profit organizations for programs that support our mission and participate in tutoring programs in local schools..

On the national level the branch contributes to AAUW's Section 501(c)(3) charitable membership organization, which supports Education for women and girls. Under the same arm of the association, AAUW offers support to women fighting sex discrimination in higher education and in the workplace through its Legal Advocacy Fund.

The Laguna Beach Branch of AAUW is one of more than a thousand branches nationwide. To learn more about the AAUW national association see the About AAUW page of this website.
